Baldwin-White Cloud Ranger District closures
Release Date: Aug 31, 2018
Contact(s): Susan Blake
The Baldwin-White Cloud Ranger Station is closed until further notice along with several recreation areas due to damage as a result of Tuesday evening’s storm.
Recreation site closures include Bowman Bridge and Gleason’s Landing campgrounds. Gleason’s Landing boat launch remains open. Rainbow Rapids boat launch is closed until further notice. The Little “O” 50” Trail remains closed on national forest lands and the issuance of watercraft permits for the Pere Marquette have been temporarily suspended until access can be improved. The Pere Marquette River is open to visitors who already have a valid permit.
The M-37 launch to Gleason’s Landing is currently accessible. However, the river is impassable beyond Gleason’s Landing at this time. Please use caution on the North Country Trail sections in Lake County. The Forest Service is working with numerous partners to open the rivers and trails as soon as possible.
Forest Service officials ask the public to be patient as crews diligently clear away downed trees, electrical lines and other hazards within and around the impacted areas. The public is urged to use extreme caution when accessing any areas affected by the storm. There remains the potential for falling trees and branches along with electrical lines. Be aware of your surroundings and look up for treetop hazards as well as hazards directly in front of you.
Primary Forest Roads have been targeted for debris removal, but personnel continue to assess and address impacts from the storm that unleashed an EF0 tornado.
