Hardin Ridge History
Several pictures were found in our historical files of the farm that was located where the Twin Oaks Visitor Center is now located. Some of the campground loops are named after families who once lived on those particular ridges. Joseph and Mary Elizabeth Qullen lived where the visitor center and amphitheater now stand. They farmed this ridge from the late 1800's through the early 1900's.
Below the Quillens are pictured at a gathering of family and friends at their cabin.

Mr. Quillen is shown here with a load of spooled bark harvested at Hardin Ridge. He delivered the bark to the Showers Brothers Furniture Factory in Bloomington. The bark is used in caning chairs. The picture was taken on Morton Street in Bloomington.
Here the Quillens are shown with the same team of Oxen (Tom and Bill) in front of their cabin.
