Mountain City-Ruby Mountains-Jarbidge Ranger District
The Mountain City-Ruby Mountains-Jarbidge Ranger District is comprised of the Mountain City and Ruby Mountains-Jarbidge Ranger Districts. One office is located in Wells, Nevada (pop. 1,250), and the other office is in Elko, Nevada (pop. 20,451). The District also lies in Elko and White Pine counties. Located in northeastern Nevada, the Mountain City-Ruby Mountains-Jarbidge Ranger District is over 1.1 million acres. This huge expanse of wild and rugged land is rich in Native American, mining, and ranching history.
The Mountain City-Ruby Mountains-Jarbidge Ranger District features a wide variety of diverse landscapes including the Jarbidge, East Humboldt and Ruby Mountain Ranges. The terrain is made up of rocky peaks, cirque basins, high glacier-formed lakes, steep narrow canyons, and rolling sage/grass hills. The elevation on the District ranges from about 6,000 feet on the valley floor to 11,387 feet on the summit of Ruby Dome in the Ruby Mountains. Vegetation consists of sagebrush, aspen, mountain mahogany, and high altitude conifers.
