Ribbon-cutting ceremony on October 5 for new trails in Mammoth
BISHOP, Calif. October 4, 2022 – Inyo National Forest and the Town of Mammoth Lakes are happy to announce the official opening of several new trails in the Mammoth Lakes Basin with a ribbon cutting ceremony on Wednesday October 5, 2022 at 3:00 p.m. These new trails are a result of the community engagement effort from the Lakes Basin Special Study, an effort that began in 2012 led by the Mammoth Lakes Trails and Public Access Foundation.
The public and media are invited to partake in the ribbon-cutting ceremony:
WHEN: Wednesday, October 5 at 3:00 p.m.
WHERE: Junction of Lake Mary and Lake George Roads (see map)
WHAT: Ribbon Cutting ceremony
WHO: Town of Mammoth Lakes - Recreation, U.S. Forest Service, Mammoth
Lakes Trails and Public Access Foundation.
The trails:
- Mamie Woods: provides connectivity between the Lakes Basin Path and Lake George Path along the western shore of Lake Mamie.
- Horseshoe Woods: this newly constructed portion of Horseshoe Woods offers the best trail experience among the latest phase of Lakes Basin trail projects, providing connectivity between Horseshoe Lake and Lake Mamie.
- Dog Boulder Trail: a reconstructed user-created trail improved for a non-motorized multi-use experience. The trail leads to Dog Boulder, a beautiful granite boulder found at the western terminus of the trail popular for climbing, where it also intersects with the newly rerouted Horseshoe Lake Loop.
