Cougar Fire closure area – Sandpoint Ranger District

Sandpoint, Idaho (August 6, 2018) – Several trails and roads in the Cougar Fire are being closed for the protection of public health and safety due to wildfire activity and the presence of crews and equipment working on fire suppression. The Cougar Fire, located south of Jost Creek and north of Porcupine Lake, is approximately 700 acres and burning in steep, rugged terrain. Additional fire growth is anticipated with high temperatures and dry fuels in the fire area. Until safety concerns are fully addressed, the following roads and trails are closed:

  • Trail #120Beetop-Roundtop, west of Trail #63 Beetop Ridge and east of Trail #444 Strong Creek

  • Trail #63 Beetop Ridge

  • Trail #114 Porcupine Creek

  • Trail #642 Porcupine Lake

  • Trail #2240 Auxor Mine

  • Road #489 Auxor

  • Road #444 Strong Creek

  • Road #419 Lightning Creek, north of Road #1184 East Fork and south of Road #473 Rattle Creek
