The U.S. Forest Service, Coeur d’Alene River Ranger District, will be treating noxious weeds on National Forest lands with herbicides from June through October 2014, depending upon weather conditions. Roads, trails, and administrative areas considered for treatment are listed on the Idaho Panhandle National Forests’ website (http://fs.usda.gov/goto/ipnf/news-events).
Treatment needs are determined based on noxious weed surveys. Chemicals to be used include 2,4-D, Clopyralid, Metsulfuron Methyl, Triclopyr, Chlorsulphuron, Glyphosate, and Picloram. The weeds to be targeted are spotted knapweed, meadow hawkweed, orange hawkweed, St. Johns’ wort, Canada thistle, bull thistle, rush skeletonweed, dalmatian toadflax, yellow toadflax, leafy spurge, blueweed (vipers’ bugloss), common bugloss, Scotch broom, multiflora rose, Japanese knotweed, tansy ragwort, poison hemlock, and common tansy.
This project is part of an integrated pest management program that includes hand-pulling of weeds, chemical treatment, seeding/fertilizing of competitive native grasses, and biological controls. Treatments will be accomplished in accordance with the Idaho Panhandle National Forests' Weed Pest Management Environmental Impact Statement.
