Road maintenance work to begin on North Kaibab Ranger District

Fredonia, Ariz., June 16, 2017 — For Immediate Release. Maintenance along Forest Road 22 is scheduled to begin on June 19 starting at the intersection of FR 22 and FR 447 and continuing north for 4.8 miles ending at the southern portion of Nail Canyon.

Contractors will be to reconditioning and resurfacing FR 22 in the Big Springs area. Forest Service engineers anticipate the project to start around June 19 and continue for about 30 days.

Motorists should be aware that gravel trucks will be hauling aggregate from the BLM stockpile off FR22 (approximately 20.8 miles north of  Big Springs). Travelers are asked to remain alert and use caution when traveling in this area during the road maintenance construction. A map of the project is available below. Additionally, contractors will also provide basic road maintenance and blading on 138 miles of level 3 roads and 20 miles of level 2 roads. Forest road maintenance levels are defined in Forest Service Handbook 7709.59 (Road System Operations and Maintenance Handbook).
