Fire management on the Kootenai National Forest encompasses a variety of tools. These include wildland fire, prescribed burning, fire prevention and smoke management. By using these tools, protection of private land, management of the forest and air quality can be enhanced. In the past, fire has played a major role in shaping the Kootenai National Forest. This is evident in the abundant variety of both plant and animal species found on the forest.

The Tamarack Fire is located 9 miles NE of Happy's Inn, MT.

Gibralter Ridge

The lightning caused Gibralter Ridge Fire is located 7 miles east of Eureka, Montana.
