Getting Involved for Agencies and the General Public

Tips on How to Comment

  • Organize Your Thoughts
    • Make sure your intent/ concern is clear. Identify the specific aspects in the Draft Plan/DEIS you are addressing.
  • Identify the “Why”
    • Share your reasoning. Comments that simply state agreement or opposition are unhelpful.
  • Remember: Comments Are Not Votes
    • Duplicate comments do not carry more weight. Substance has a bigger impact than quantity.
  • Include Your Name
    • To have standing to object, you must include your name and contact information.

Example of a Good Comment:

In the Fire and Fuels section (pg. 80 of the Draft Plan) the guideline says “Measures should be taken to prevent the spread of invasive plant species by equipment, personnel, or rehabilitation operations.” This should be a standard instead of a guideline because non-native invasive plants are difficult to eradicate.

Upcoming Meetings

The Lincoln National Forest will hold three virtual community meetings to present the Draft Forest Plan and the Draft Environmental Impact Statement and answer questions.

  • September 22 at 4:00 PM
  • September 29 at 2:00 PM
  • October 12 at 4:00 PM

A general presentation on the content of the documents will be given.  The presentation will cover topics such as proposed wilderness, caves, vegetation management, grazing and watersheds. Participants will have time to ask questions and make official comments during the meeting. The meeting is open to everyone.
