Public Meetings to review the initial proposal for South Sacramento Restoration Project

Release Date: Sep 7, 2017

ALAMOGORDO, CLOUDCROFT, NM – The Lincoln National Forest (LNF) invites the public to attend two upcoming meetings to review and discuss the details of the initial proposal for the South Sacramento Restoration Project (SSRP). The SSRP is a landscape-scale project aimed at restoring forest health and addressing watershed, wildlife and wildfire concerns on approximately 140,000 acres in the South Sacramento Mountains of the LNF. The LNF developed the proposal utilizing written comments submitted during the scoping period and input gathered at public meetings held earlier this year.

Now that we have developed an initial proposal for the SSRP, we will be hosting two public meetings to share and review the details of the proposal; both meetings will cover the same information. Meeting dates, times and locations are as follows:

  • Thursday, September 21, 6 – 8 pm, Weed Community Center in Weed, NM
  • Saturday, September 23, 10 am – 12 pm, Timberon Water & Sanitation Annex, 1 Bobwhite Circle in Timberon, NM

These meetings provide an opportunity for the public to not only review information, but also to inform the Forest Service of any project elements that are missing from the proposal, such as a treatment method, a desired condition, or a resource protection measure.
