Kellar Fire Final Update: Closure Order Rescinded

Carlsbad, Artesia, NM – 6/5/2018 – The Kellar Fire is now 95% contained and command of the incident was transferred back to the Guadalupe Ranger District on Monday at 12:30 pm. The closure order associated with the fire area was rescinded today.

The follow areas are now once again open for the public to enjoy.

  • Sitting Bulls Falls Day Use Area and all Sitting Bulls Falls trail systems.
  • Forest Service Road 277-C at Forest Service Road 277
  • Forest Service Road 276 at Eddy County Road 409 junction (Sitting Bull Gate)
  • Forest Service Road 68 at NM-Hwy 137 junction
  • Forest Service Road 525 at NM-Hwy 137 junction

The Lincoln National Forest would like to thank residents and visitors for their patience and understanding during the Kellar Fire. Fire crews successfully completed their mission to allow fire back on the landscape to reduce pinon juniper density and increase grass production in the future. The Kellar Fire consumed 5750 acres.
