Available Recreation Sites on the Lincoln National Forest

Alamogordo, NM (October 5, 2018) – A number of developed recreation areas have closed for the season on the Lincoln National Forest.  Here is what remains open:

Silver, Silver Overflow and Deerhead campgrounds on the Sacramento District are open until October 9th. The Trestle Recreation Area and Lower Karr Campground are currently open but both close after the first snow.

The following areas are open all year:  

Sacramento District: 

  • James Canyon Campground
  • Upper Karr Canyon Recreation Area
  • Bluff Springs
  • Sleep Grass Picnic Area

Smokey Bear District: 

  • Upper Bonito Canyon
  • Three Rivers Campground
  • Skyline Campground
  • Baca Campground
  • Schoolhouse Picnic Area
  • Cedar Creek public picnic area

Guadalupe District: Sitting Bull Falls Recreation Area

Dispersed or primitive camping is available throughout the forest year-round.
