Order R1-2020-02

R1-2020-02 Weed Free Forage & Mulch Products Order for R1. It is illegal to possess, store or transport straw, hay, grain, seed or other forage or mulch products on Forest Service lands without documentation that the product is certified as “weed free” by a state certification process that meets or exceeds the North American Weed Free Forage standards. The order remains in effect until August 31, 2022. Read the full order for all prohibitions. Order R1-2022-01

R1-2022-01 Northern Region Occupancy and Use Restrictions. This order prohibits a variety of acts from using vehicles recklessly or illegally on National Forest System Lands, plowing or hauling on Forest roads without a permit, being in violation of state or local alcohol laws, using federally prohibited drugs or controlled substances, using fireworks or pyrotechnic devices, using explosives and exploding targets, and using combustion engines without a spark arrestor.

Order R1-2023-02

R1-2023-02 Northern Continental Divide Ecosystem Food Storage Order. From March through December, storage of food, garbage, and other attractants is restricted during occupancy and use on all national forests within the Northern Continental Divide Ecosystem including the Flathead, Kootenai, Lolo, Beaverhead-Deerlodge, and Helena-Lewis and Clark National Forests within the Northern Continental Divide Ecosystem area. These requirements are intended to help you avoid attracting grizzly bears into your camp or near to you while enjoying other non-camping forest activities.

Order R1-2023-01

R1-2023-01: Regional Camping Restriction Order that prohibits:

National Forests in Montana: 1. camping or otherwise occupying a single site for over 16 consecutive days within a calendar year; or 2. camping or occupying any number of sites for 32 cumulative days in a calendar year.
National Forest, Experimental Forest and Grasslands in North and South Dakota: 1. camping or otherwise occupying a single site for over 14 consecutive days within a calendar year; or 2. camping or occupying any number of sites for 28 cumulative days in a calendar year.
