Los Padres National Forest officials announced the selection of Karina Gutierrez as the new Mt. Pinos District Ranger stationed in Frazier Park. Gutierrez assumed her duties in May.

Gutierrez replaces Tony Martinez, who accepted the position of District Ranger on the Los Padres’ Santa Lucia Ranger District in Santa Maria.

Gutierrez comes to the Mt. Pinos from the Prescott National Forest in Arizona where she served as the Deputy District Ranger for the Bradshaw and Chino Valley Ranger Districts. She recently completed a temporary assignment as Acting District Ranger on the Descano Ranger District on the Cleveland National Forest in Southern California.

A Southern California native, Gutierrez attended UC-San Diego where she earned a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science—International Relations in 2009. Following graduation, Gutierrez accepted a position with the Department of Homeland Security’s Transportation Security Administration in Goleta and later completed her Master’s degree in Homeland Security—Emergency Management. She also worked for the U.S. Geological Survey in the world of earthquake science.

Gutierrez began her U.S. Forest Service career on the Angeles National Forest as the Forest Fleet Manager and completed a temporary Deputy District Ranger assignment on the Los Angeles Gateway Ranger District.

“I am looking forward to meeting and working with the people of the Mountain Communities and the many visitors who come each year to enjoy these incredible public lands,” Gutierrez said.

As a fan of the outdoors, Gutierrez looks forward to exploring the forest. When she’s not enjoying the great outdoors, she is likely baking goodies or crafting up a DIY project with her fiancé Victor and German Shepard/Rottweiler dog Bailey.
