Fall Color in the Lake Tahoe Basin

Fall Color Viewing Areas

Below are directions to great spots to view fall foiliage on or near the South Shore of the Lake Tahoe Basin. 

  • Cookhouse Meadow - From South lake Tahoe, Take Highway 89 south to the top of Luther Pass.

  • Fredrick's Meadow -  From South Lake Tahoe, take Highway 89 north approximately 3 miles. Turn left on Fallen Leaf Lake Rd. and continue past the campground entrance approximately 1½ miles. The meadow is on the right.

  • Lake Tahoe Community College Demonstration Garden - Located at 1 College Drive in South Lake Tahoe. From the entrance to the college, stay to the right and park in one of the lots near the daycare center. 

  • Lam Watah Trail/Rabe Meadow - From South Lake Tahoe, take Highway 50 east toward Stateline approximately 5 miles. Turn left on Kahle drive and park in the lot on the right.

  • Spooner Summit - From South Lake Tahoe, take Highway 50 east approximately 15 miles. Park at the Tahoe Rim Trail trailhead on the left side of the highway.

  • Hope Valley - From South Lake Tahoe, take Highway 50 toward Echo Summit approximately 5 miles. Turn left at Highway 89 south and continue over Luther Pass to Pickett's Junction approximately 10 miles.
