Winter Trek Fifth-Grade Conservation Education Program

Dec. 23, 2022- Volunteers needed for 2023 Winter Trek
The Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit is looking for volunteers to help with the 2023 Winter Trek program at Heavenly Mountain Resort. Winter Trek is a 5th grade snowshoe program that teaches students snowshoeing skills while they learn about winter animal adaptation, Lake Tahoe’s watershed, and winter ecology. Volunteers will receive training and uniforms. If you are interested in volunteering, please complete the online form. Introduction
This 3-hour environmental education program takes place at 9,000 ft. elevation at the Heavenly Mountain Resort via a Gondola ride from Stateline. Forest Service rangers and volunteers lead the class through the wilderness to learn about snowshoe skills and fire and forest ecology. Students fulfill science, language, social science and physical education requirements for fifth-grade curriculum during the program as well as pre- and post-visit material for the classroom.
