Badger Creek Fire Statistics:                                                                      

Start Date:  June 10, 2018                                            

Start Location: 2 miles NW of Mountain Home, WY

Approximate size: 21,310 acres                                 

Approximate containment: 90%                                                                                               

Cause:  Under Investigation
Assigned Personnel: 144


Current Situation: Yesterday, the Badger Creek Fire did not receive much precipitation from the scattered thunderstorms rolling through the area. The fire activity was lower than previous days, due to the higher relative humidity and calmer winds. Today, there is a chance of showers all day.


Firefighters will continue to patrol the fire’s perimeter and near structures, taking any necessary action where they can safely cool remaining hot spots. Falling teams are being utilized to take down trees in areas of concern to assist firefighters in securing those areas.


Wildland Fire Resource Advisors will be evaluating different areas of the Badger Creek Fire to document fire damage to the landscape. These Advisors provide professional knowledge and expertise for the protection of the natural, cultural and other resources within the fire area. Their findings and recommendations assist in formulating a plan for post-fire rehab in the fire area.


Closures and Public Safety:  The current closure order, revised on June 30, and a map are available on InciWeb.     


Fire Restrictions:  Stage 1 fire restrictions went into effect on July 5, 2018 on all National Forest System lands within the Sierra Madre Range and Snowy Range on the Medicine Bow National Forest. Strategy: The Badger Creek Fire has been a full suppression fire from the time of initial response. Firefighters will implement strategies and tactics with the highest probability of success to protect values at risk.
