(YAMPA, Colo.)  September 9, 2019 – Due to culvert replacements on Lynx Pass, a quarter mile section of Forest Road 270 (Morrison Creek Road/County Road 16) in south Routt County, Colo. will be closed from Wednesday, Sept. 11 – Thursday, Sept. 12. The segment of Forest Road 270 to be closed is located on the Routt National Forest, just north of Lynx Pass trailhead and campground and 1.2 miles south from the end of Routt County Road 16.

Closure point on the south is at the intersection of the 270 Road and Forest Road 226. The north end of the closure is at the intersection of the 270 Road and Forest Road 227. Access to Lagunita Lake, as well as the trailhead and campground will be from the south.

Lynx Pass is approximately 3.2 miles north of Colorado State Highway 134. There will be no alternate routes around the closure during construction. The 270 Road will be open from both north and south, but not through. Work is being done mid-week to minimize impact to the public.

Non-motorized access to the surrounding Forest will still be allowed and dispersed recreation sites outside of the closed road are available. Forest visitors will still be able to access all areas, although travel times may be impacted due to a lack of through traffic.

Temporary road closures are a short-term inconvenience needed to provide for long-term resource benefit and public safety.  Visitors need to be aware of ongoing changes that may affect travel.

Those traveling through the National Forest should pay attention to signage and refer to the Motor Vehicle Use Map (MVUM) for alternate travel routes. MVUMs are free and physical copies can be obtained at the Yampa District Office, 300 Roselawn Ave., in Yampa, Colo. Electronic versions of the free map are available online at

It is the user’s responsibility to know where they are and what types of restrictions there may be when accessing public lands.

Visitors with questions about roads and trails on the Routt National Forest should contact the Forest Service Office in Yampa.
