Everett, Wash. September 7, 2017 —  At 7:30p.m.on Monday September 4 a fire was reported to DNR fire dispatch near the Sawmill Ridge northeast of Greenwater in the Green River Watershed. By Wednesday the fire grew to 840 acres. At 0600 on Wednesday 9/6/17 the Type 3 South East Washington Incident Management Team 1 started managing the fire. The type 3 team will manage the resources that are called in to help mitigate the fire. The team will work with local agencies, organizations and land owners to manage the fire as safely, and quickly as possible with the resources available.

Public and firefighter safety continue to be the top priority in working the Sawmill Creek fire. Visibility has severely limited firefighters’ability to engage and monitor thefire. The fire is wind and terrain driven and growing currently in all directions. Smoke and ash fallout from the Norse Peak fire is a concern as there has been reports of spot fires between the two fires. Resources to help fight the fire are currently ordered but due to competing fires and resource availability nationally, orders are hard to fill.
