SR 542 closed this Sunday from 7 am - 12 noon

Bellingham, WA – Highway 542 is closed this Sunday, September 8th from 7am – 12 noon at Snowater Road, ½ mile East of Glacier (Eastbound and Westbound) for the Mt. Baker Hill Climb. The highway is also closed to all cycling traffic not registered for the event.

Campgrounds east of Snowater have all been notified and there will be a Washington State Patrol Officer on the course to escort any emergencies down the highway. A PCMS board is on location 10 days prior to Race Day notifying people of the closure.

Registration for the event closes at midnight this Thursday the 5th and walk-up registration is available the morning of the ride. We appreciate your help in notifying your readers of the highway closure this Sunday.

Currently there are 291 registered racers for the Hill Climb in all three categories. The three categories: Social riders leave at 7:00 am (e-bikes allowed); Recreational Riders leave at 8:00 am; and Competitive Racers leave at 8:30 am.

Riders ascend 4,100 feet from Chair 9 in Glacier to Artist Point (5,076 feet elevation) in approximately 22 miles. The Mt. Baker Highway (SR542) is known as one of the most scenic paved roads in the country and for riders, this is a rare opportunity to experience the area while vehicle access is restricted.
