New District Ranger for De Soto National Forest

Forest, Mississippi March 20, 2017– Ms. Anne Casey has been selected as the District Ranger for the De Soto Ranger District. Ms. Casey has a bachelor’s degree in Wildlife Science from Auburn University, followed by internships with the Office of Surface Mining in Tennessee and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (Red Wolf Program) in North Carolina. She went west to complete her master’s degree in Wildlife Management from the University of Arizona. After school, she worked with the Farm Service Agency in Tucson as a GIS technician.
Anne has an extensive background in relationship building, collaboration and partnership development. Ms. Casey has been with the Forest Service for about 13 years, starting as a wildlife technician, then becoming a district biologist at the Safford Ranger District on the Coronado National Forest. During her tenure in Safford, she was fortunate in having detail opportunities as a recreation program manager, assistant forest biologist, and a district ranger both on the Douglas Ranger District of the Coronado and in Glenwood on the Gila National Forest. She then returned to the Gila as the Glenwood district ranger, starting in 2015. Prior positions include district biologist on the Coronado National Forest, Safford, AZ, Acting District Ranger on the Glenwood Ranger District, Acting Assistant Forest Biologist and Acting Zone Recreation Staff on the Coronado NF.
Ms. Casey is an avid reader and a yoga student. While out west, she enjoyed kicking around in creeks with her dog, finding lizards, and taking winter trips to spot migratory birds at Bosque del Apache National Wildlife Refuge. She grew up in Pensacola, Florida, so she looks forward to coming home to the South. Anne comes to us from Southwest Region (Region 3), where she currently serves as district ranger on the Gila National Forest, Glenwood Ranger District, in Glenwood, New Mexico. Her reporting date will be March 6, 2017.
