Crews Respond to Fire near Dyer Over the Weekend on Monongahela National Forest

Richwood, W.Va., March 18, 2019 – An 8-10 acre fire was reported just east of Dyer on the Gauley Ranger District of Monongahela National Forest at about 3:30 p.m., Friday, March 15.

Firefighters from several agencies responded and worked late into the night and all day Saturday to contain the fire, estimated at 25 acres. The Hickman Hollow Fire was declared controlled as of 6 p.m., Sunday, March 17. Staff will continue to patrol the area over the next few days.

"We'd like to thank local volunteer fire departments, emergency medical services, state agencies and others who assisted in responding to the fire," said Incident Commander John Fry.

Fire staff from Monongahela National Forest were assisted by the West Virginia Division of Forestry, Harpers Ferry Job Corps Center, Wayne National Forest, Huron Manistee National Forest, West Virginia State Police, WV Department of Natural Resources Law Enforcement, Webster Springs VFD, Craigsville VFD, Cowen VFD, Urbacon VFD, and Webster Memorial Hospital EMS.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
