ELKINS, W.Va., January 8, 2021 – In 2020 the West Virginia Resource Advisory Committee recommended 27 projects totaling $620,576 for Title II funding from the Secure Rural Schools and Community Self Determination Act.

“We appreciate this group of West Virginia citizens for serving on the Advisory Committee,” said Forest Supervisor Shawn Cochran. “They work well together, and their careful consideration of each project made it easy to accept their recommendations.”

The selected Title II projects will take place both on and off Monongahela National Forest land. All projects will benefit National Forest resources by enhancing recreational opportunities, protecting watersheds, or improving pollinator habitat. Information about the projects can be viewed at https://cloudapps-usda-gov.secure.force.com/FSSRS/RAC_Page?id=001t0000002JcuqAAC

Counties with National Forest System lands receive a payment based on annual receipts from timber and other forest products produced by National Forest land within that county. Payments are divided into three distinct categories: Title I for roads and schools, Title II for special projects, and Title III for county projects. The Secure Rural Schools and Community Self-Determination Act of 2000 was passed by Congress to stabilize these payments. Learn more about the Secure Rural Schools program at https://www.fs.usda.gov/main/pts/home.
