We are currently hiring both permanent and temporary positions.

The Fire and Aviation Management Program is very rewarding and requires talented people working safely as part of a team in a variety of specialized positions, including dispatch, engine crews, fuels management, hand crews, helitack, interagency hotshot crews, and prevention.

Permanent Jobs - Accepting Applications August 1 - October 15, 2018

The Northern Region of the USDA Forest Service (Northern Idaho, Montana, and the Dakotas) is accepting applications for permanent wildland firefighting jobs through a process called Fire Hire. These jobs are available in a variety of firefighting positions on the Nez Perce-Clearwater and other National Forests in the region. Interested individuals can apply for these jobs on www.USAJobs.gov.

Fire Hire is a Forest Service process that the region uses to hire the majority of its permanent workforce in fire management positions at the GS-5 through GS-9 grade level. During this event, GS-4 through GS-9 firefighting positions will be open for applications on USAJobs.gov in areas such as dispatch, engine crews, fuels technicians, hand crews, helitack, interagency hotshot crews, and fire prevention.


Temporary Jobs - Accepting Applications September 10 - October 15, 2018

The Nez Perce-Clearwater National Forests will be filling multiple temporary (seasonal) wildland firefighter positions for the upcoming 2019 field season. Openings will be available at the GS-2, GS-3, GS-4, and GS-5 levels and are for positions with a maximum six-month tour of duty (not to exceed 1,039 hours). The starting dates of these positions are anticipated to be between May and early June 2019.

Wildland Firefighter Apprenticeship Program - Accepting Applications August 1 - October 15, 2018

The Nez Perce-Clearwater National Forests is also hiring through the U.S. Forest Service Wildland Firefighter Apprenticeship Program. The apprenticeship program will develop the knowledge and basic skills necessary to work as a wildland firefighter.  Apprentices will complete on-the-job training as well as a residential firefighting academy at the Wildland Fire Training Center in California. Apprentices will be paid, and all costs of training will be covered by the Forest Service. Upon successful completion of the program, apprentices will be in permanent GS-5 firefighter positions.
