Every year, Memorial Day Weekend draws a crowd of people to the Nez Perce-Clearwater National Forests for Lochsa Madness - a weekend of river adventure as whitewater enthusiasts take advantage of spring runoff and wild water on the Lochsa River.

This year, the celebration will be bigger and better than ever, with events all weekend long celebrating the 50th Anniversary of the Wild and Scenic Rivers Act. The Wild and Scenic Lochsa River was one of the original rivers designated under this Act in 1968, which continues to protect the river's free-flowing waters and outstanding scenery and recreation.

Many groups came together to make the 2018 Lochsa Madness event special, with events and activities that celebrate Wild and Scenic Rivers, provide information about the Act, and help us continue to appreciate the wild and wonderful Lochsa River. We hope you'll join in the fun!

Helpful Information

Highway 12 Construction

Many of you traveling to Lochsa Madness this summer are aware of construction activities scheduled for U.S. Highway 12 during Summer 2018, which includes bridgework and road resurfacing and will result in lengthy travel delays. The Nez Perce-Clearwater National Forests is working closely with the Idaho Transportation Department to ensure our visitors stay up to date on travel impacts on this important corridor.

No construction work is scheduled on Highway 12 during Memorial Day Weekend. Furthermore, road resurfacing - which will cause the most lengthy travel delays - is not scheduled to begin until June. Bridge construction at Fish Creek Bridge and Maggie Creek Bridge may cause travel delays of 30 minutes as the bridges are reduced to one-lane travel during construction.

Those traveling along U.S. Highway 12 for Lochsa Madness or other trips this summer are highly encouraged to visit >> this website << for the latest construction updates from Idaho Transportation Department.
