Forest Service roads opening June 15 for access to personal use firewood

Release Date: Jun 1, 2018

The Salmon River and Red River Ranger Districts of the Nez Perce-Clearwater National Forests will open several roads for access to personal use firewood starting June 15.

Forest Service roads (FSRs) opening on June 15 include:

  • FSR 1862, aka Honker Road, and all spurs off the #1862 road system
  • FSR 9452, aka Bully Creek Road
  • All roads on Wheeler Mountain, including FSR 1803 and all forks/spurs off of it

These roads will remain open until August 15. A personal use firewood permit is required and all conditions of the permit apply.

The minimum cost for a personal use firewood permit is $20.00 for four cords, and the maximum is $60.00 for 12 cords. Permits and forest visitor maps are available at all forest office locations, as well as several vendors in the local community. A list of permit vendors can be found on our website at www.fs.usda.gov/main/nezperceclearwater/passes-permits/forestproducts.

Remember, you can help continue the success of this program by removing firewood debris from road surfaces and ditches and by respecting other forest users and natural resources. Thank you for your responsible use of National Forest System lands!
