Release Date: Oct 5, 2018

The Nez Perce-Clearwater National Forests is hosting a public meeting for the White Pine project on Tuesday, Oct. 16 beginning at 5 p.m. (PDT) at the Saint Joe Ranger District office in St. Maries (222 S. 7th Street). The public is invited to attend the meeting to learn more about the White Pine project and the ongoing scoping and comment period.

At the meeting, Forest Service officials will be available to answer questions and accept public feedback about the White Pine project and provide information about how to submit formal public comment during the project’s 30–day scoping period, which began Sept. 28.

The White Pine project, located in the northwest portion of the Palouse Ranger District in Benewah and Latah counties, encompasses 7,000 acres of National Forest System lands and aims to improve species/age class diversity and forest health and reduce potential wildfire in the Wildland Urban Interface. The project is expected to be completed using authorities under the Healthy Forest Restoration Act as amended by the 2014 Farm Bill.
