Upcoming temporary road closures on Red River Ranger District

Nez Perce-Clearwater National Forests officials ask that the public be prepared for increased log truck traffic as well as temporary road closures on the Red River Ranger District for public safety during timber harvest activities associated with the Muddy Moose and Dutch Oven Stewardship timber sales.

Forest Service road 307, FSR 471, and FSR 1808 will be temporarily closed to all motorized traffic Monday through Friday beginning December 3 and effective until rescinded. On the weekends, FSR 307 will be open to regular traffic, and FSR 471 and FSR 1808 will be open to over the snow vehicles. This is consistent with an existing forest closure which seasonally limits portions of these roads to over snow vehicle use only.

Full details about these closures, including maps, are available online at www.fs.usda.gov/alerts/nezperceclearwater/alerts-notices or your local ranger station.

Additionally, the Bureau of Land Management has temporarily closed the portion of FSR 1808 which crosses BLM–managed lands (Order No. ID-420-08). Questions about this closure may be directed to the BLM Cottonwood Field Office; (208) 962-3245.

Forest visitors should expect to encounter increased log truck traffic on area roads during these timber harvest activities. Hauling for the Muddy Moose sale will occur on FSR 307 to Highway 14 and then to Grangeville. Hauling for the Dutch Oven Stewardship sale will follow FSR 1808 to FSR 1199, through Elk City, onto Highway 14 and into Grangeville.

Traditionally, a snowmobile parking area has been maintained by Idaho County near Beartrap Road. This parking area will be available during this timber harvest activity. Recreationists should be prepared to encounter log truck traffic in the area and note that FSR 1808 will be shared use between the snowmobile parking area and the junction with FSR 1199.

Questions about these closures may be directed to the Red River Ranger District office in Elk City: (208) 842-2245.
