KAMIAH, Idaho (June 10, 2021) – Road work has begun on the Nez Perce-Clearwater National Forests’ Windy Shingle North timber sale and will continue throughout the summer. U.S. Forest Service officials said some delays may be expected.

Signs will be posted in all areas with active equipment. The timber harvest is expected to begin by June 28 with log hauling commencing that week as well. Traffic will be heavy, and the roads are relatively narrow. The CB channel will be posted. Logging operations will continue throughout the summer. To maintain public safety, Forest Service officials anticipate some road closures will be required.

The Windy Shingle project is located approximately five miles west of Riggins, Idaho in Idaho County.  It was designed for vegetation treatments to reduce the risk or extent of insects and disease infestation and increase stand resilience. Windy Shingle was also designed to reduce wildfire risk to local communities and surrounding federal lands.
