Release Date: Jun 1, 2016

TROY, NC – The Uwharrie National Forest will be hosting Kids Fishing Day at Badin Lake on June 11 at the Kings Mountain Point facility in the Badin Lake Recreation Area from 9 am to noon.

The event encourages families and friends to share fun and quality outdoor time together while learning about one of our nation’s favorite pastimes – fishing. The Uwharrie National Forest will provide fishing assistance and free fishing poles and supplies for kids under the age of 13, while supplies last. Prizes will be awarded by age group and category.

No experience is needed for families to participate in this event. A hot dog lunch will be provided at noon to all who participate.

Young anglers registered at this event are eligible to enter a statewide drawing for fishing-related prizes, such as tackle boxes, rod and reels, fish playing cards, fishing towels and much more. The grand prize, a lifetime sportsman license that includes fishing and hunting privileges, is generously donated by Neuse Sport Shop, located in Kinston. Other fishing-related prizes and lunch have been donated by the North Carolina State Council of Trout Unlimited, North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission, Friends of Uwharrie, and the Uwharrie National Forest.

This fishing event at Badin Lake is conducted as part of National Fishing and Boating Week, which occurs the first two weeks in June. For a list of other free fishing day events this year, go to http://go.usa.gov/cSkyP.
