Uwharrie National Forest seasonal closures and openings

Troy, NC, March 14, 2019 - The Uwharrie National Forest has temporarily closed several roads for turkey season.

These roads are seasonally closed to motorized vehicles to help protect wildlife habitat, decrease wildlife disturbance, and reduce road maintenance costs. The roads are opened for deer hunting season from September 1 through February 28/29 in coordination with the North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission.

The following roads are now closed till September 1, 2019:

Polly Place Road (FSR 6652)
Cattail Branch Road (FSR 6653)
Beaverdam Road (FSR 6507)
Yates Place Road (FSR 6746)
River Road (FSR 518)
West Polly Branch Road (FSR 6720)

A portion of Cotton Place Road, FSR 555, is closed due to damage from Hurricane Florence. The closure is from just south of the Cotton Place OHV Trailhead down to the permanent gate at the intersection of River Trail (Trail 713), Buttermilk Trail (Trail 720), and FSR 555. The contractor is scheduled to begin repairs to the damaged culverts in late spring.

Badin Lake OHV Trail Complex will open on Friday March 29.

On all Forest Service roads, emergency closures due to weather or resource conditions can occur at any time. For current road conditions and status, contact the Uwharrie National Forest at 910-576-6391 Monday through Friday 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
