Colville and Okanogan-Wenatchee Forest Plan Revision

Welcome to the Forest Plan Revision Project website!

The Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest has been working in coordination with the Colville National Forest for a number of years to revise their respective land and resource management plans (forest plans). This past year the planning teams opted to separate their planning efforts. The Colville Forest Plan Revision project is moving ahead as the next regional priority for completing its forest plan revision, with the goal to release a draft plan and draft environmental impact statement this summer for public review.

The Okanogan-Wenatchee Forest Plan Revision project is currently on hold. The Regional Forester is evaluating how to best move forward with completing the revision of this plan, and other forest plans that fall within the Northwest Forest Plan Amendment area.

December 16, 2015 -- The U.S. Forest Service’s Pacific Northwest Research Station today announced a website to promote awareness of the development of a science synthesis to inform plan revision in the Northwest Forest Plan (NWFP) area.
Science Synthesis to Inform Plan Revisions

Ocober 2, 2015 -- Forest Service Releases Report for Forest-Level Listening Sessions on Upcoming Forest Plan Revisions.

The Pacific Northwest Region held three public Listening Sessions in mid-March -- see the Summary of Comments Report from those sessions.

Additional listening sessions are being held on forests in Oregon and Washington over the next few weeks.  Specific locations and times will be announced by each Forest as their plans are finalized, and posted on forest and region websites at Forest Plan Listening Sessions.

Northwest Forest Plan 20-Year Monitoring Reports

The Forest Service Research Station hosted a public forum and webinar to share key findings of the Northwest Forest Plan 20-Year Monitoring Reports on June 9 in Vancouver, WA. The forum included a series of presentations on the reports’ key findings, which can be accessed at the Regional Ecosystem Office forum website:
A recorded webinar is also available at:

The Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest held a Forest Plan Listening Session in Okanogan, WA on June 11, 2015. The meeting notes from that session will be posted to the regional webpage, along with the notes from the other listening sessions held across Region 6 earlier this spring.

We are in the process of updating our project website. Please check back periodically for updates.

The current forest plans are at the end of their intended 15 year life-span; the Colville Forest Plan was completed in 1988, the Okanogan in 1989 and the Wenatchee in 1990. See current forest plans.

The work we are doing in plan revision will guide management of the Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest for the next decade and beyond. The plan is being revised to reflect resource and social changes on the Forests, as well as new scientific information.

The Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest released a Forest Plan Revision proposed action on June 30, 2011, followed by a 90-day comment period that closed on September 28, 2011. The Proposed Action is the first formal step to developing the draft revised forest plans and draft environmental impact statements (DEIS).

A Summary of Public Comments from the 2011 Proposed Action scoping effort is now available [PDF: 2.6 mb, 149 pages]. The Forests have identified the key issues. That information has been added to the comment summary document. The key issues will help in determining a range of alternatives to be analyzed in the two DEIS reports. The project timeline is being updated and will be posted soon.

We appreciate the time, effort and thoughtful comments that many of you have provided to assist us in this important and complex effort, and ask for your continued involvement as we work through the Plan Revision next steps, once the Regional Forester decides on a path forward for the Okanogan-Wenatchee NF and other forests in need of completing their plan revisions.
