Revised Maps for Designated Motorized Travel System

Revised Maps for
Designated Motorized Travel System

The Ozark-St. Francis National Forest initially implemented the Travel Management Rule in January 2007 by publishing the Motorized Vehicle Use Map (MVUM), which was the culmination of the first phase of public involvement. When the official MVUMs were published in 2007 showing the legal designated routes, the forest entered into Phase 2, the ongoing analysis of roads, routes and trails that occurs during routine environmental analysis and public involvement. Since then, many of the routes that were suggested during the Phase 1 process (but were not able to be designated at that time) and routes suggested in Phase 2 have been analyzed, with many of these being part of the current additions and changes to the route system. The MVUM is expected to be revised and published in April of each year.

The link below will take you to a map that shows the newest maps with the additions and changes that have occurred to the MVUM. More than 1,000 miles of designated routes have been identified that provide a variety of opportunities for OHV enthusiasts across the Ozark National Forest. These routes include nearly 900 miles of existing forest system roads. An additional 160 miles of designated multi-use trails can be enjoyed at Huckleberry Mountain, Brock Creek, Mill Creek and Moccasin Gap. Other routes continue to be developed.

Roads and/or trails highlighted in yellow are designated for OHV use. Most campgrounds are closed to OHV use.

Phase 2 is an on-going process as district forest managers continue to analyze various areas of the forest. We encourage you to maintain contact with your local district office as they analyze other areas in future years.

You are encouraged to become familiar with these new OHV maps. The revised maps are posted to this site or are available at no charge at the nearest Forest Service office.
