Forestwide Designated Motorized Use Project: Final Decision Notice

IRONWOOD, MI (December 7, 2017) – Ottawa National Forest Supervisor, Linda L. Jackson, announced that the Final Decision Notice for the Forestwide Designated Motorized Use Project has been completed and is available upon request at any of the Ottawa National Forest’s offices or at the following libraries: Gogebic Community College, Ironwood, Michigan; Northern Michigan University, Marquette, Michigan; and Michgian Technological University, Houghton, Michigan. The Decision was signed on November 1, 2017, and can be implemented immediately.  The project area is located on the Bergland, Bessemer, Iron River, Kenton, Ontonagon, and Watersmeet Ranger Districts, which are within Baraga, Gogebic, Houghton, Iron and Ontonagon Counties, Michigan.  Alternative 2 (the Modified Proposed Action), of the May 2017 Environmental Assessment has been selected for implementation, which changes the designated access on Forest roads on the Ottawa National Forest.  The project area includes approximately 568 miles of road, and their rights-of-way.
