Contact(s): Jim Sobrack, Randi Ellsworth

Ironwood, Mich—November 1, 2019--The Ottawa National Forest is now accepting proposals for operation and maintenance of campground and recreation facilities under a Concessionaire Special Use Permit.  The permit consists of the Black River Harbor campground and pavilion facilities and four Bessemer Ranger District campgrounds.  These campgrounds include: Bobcat Lake, Henry Lake, Moosehead Lake, and Pomeroy Lake campgrounds.

A concessionaire is a private business operating on a Forest Service site providing visitor services for profit.   The objective of the Forest Service Concessionaire program is to provide recreation services to the public, while providing business opportunities on National Forest System Lands.   Through use of a concessionaire, Forests may be able to increase or enhance their capacity to provide high quality recreation amenities.

A pre-application showing of the sites will be made available by appointment only between the hours of 8:00 a.m. (CST) and 4:00 p.m. on November 8, 14, and 19, 2019. Scheduling of site showings will be dependent on existing road and weather conditions. To schedule a campground field trip appointment, please contact Randi Ellsworth at randi.ellsworth@usda.gov or (906) 358-4020 or Jim Sobrack at jim.sobrack@usda.gov or at (906) 285-6912.

The term for the Special Use Permit(s) will be for five years, from spring of 2020 through December 31, 2024, provided operations are acceptable.  Applications (four copies) must be received no later than 4:00 p.m. (CST), December 13, 2019.  For additional information on how to submit applications please contact Jim Sobrack at 906-285-6912.  The complete prospectus for the Special Use Permit is available on Fed Biz Ops (www.fbo.gov) and the Ottawa National Forest website (http://www.fs.usda.gov/ottawa/).  You may also contact our office for a printed copy of the prospectus.
