Tussock Fire– May 10, 2021 Morning Update - Type 1 Incident Management Team Assumes Command

Cause: Unknown, under investigation
Origin/Location: 7 miles southwest of Crown King.

Southwest Type 1 Team 2, led by Incident Commander Dave Bales, assumed management of the fire this morning. The team will assess the current situation and add to the great work already completed by the Type 3 team. The fire actively moved up hill yesterday with the dry windy conditions. Challenges the team will be assessing include the rugged topography and the alignment of drainages combined with anticipated weather. Additional resources and personnel are arriving to assist with the firefighting effort.

EVACUATIONS ORDERED IN THE FOLLOWING AREAS: Minnehaha, Fort Misery, and Horse Thief Basin. Crown King remains at SET. Residents should begin preparing in the event an evacuation order is issued. ROAD CLOSURES
Closure of some forest roads in the area of Old Senator highway at the junctions of FR 362 and FR 192 near Crown King; Senator Hwy (FR 52) between Hooper Saddle (FR 362) and Crown King (FR 259). Additionally, the area of Cow Tank road, that leads to FR 711 near Lake Pleasant has been closed to the public. As a reminder to the public, with the increased fire vehicles in the area, for public and firefighter safety people should not travel into any of the fire area.


AREA CLOSURES
There is a Public Safety Closure on the Prescott National Forest currently.
There is also a Public Land Closure on the BLM Phoenix District within the Hassayampa Field Office.
