Boreas Pass Section House

This building is at the summit of Boreas Pass and usually open on weekends in the summer.  The South Park Ranger District in Pike National Forest opens the building to provide historic and local information and to allow visitors to see and appreciate the restoration work.

The section house was constructed in 1882 and housed several railroad section workers. During the days of the construction of this section house, about 150 people lived on the Pass.  It was constructed of unpeeled, V-notched logs, hewn flat on the interior and exterior surfaces and was set on the ground without a foundation.

During the winter the Section House is available for overnight rental through Summit Huts Association.   They operate the Section House as a ski hut under a Special Use Permit from the USDA Forest Service.
