Forest Service Volunteer Opportunity at the South Platte Ranger District

Position Description: Visitor Information Front Desk Assistant – Help staff the front desk at the South Platte Ranger District in Morrison, CO. This position is the friendly face of the US Forest Service that helps visitors plan their trips, find information on the local recreation opportunities, and learn National Forest rules and regulations. This position is one of the best ways to learn about all aspects of the USDA Forest Service including recreation, natural resources, wildlife, and timber activities. You will be answering phones and helping walk-in visitors.

Time Commitment: 8 hours/week between the hours of 8:00 – 4:30pm Monday – Friday (min. 4 hour block). Volunteer needed on a regular/frequent basis. We can work with your schedule.

Optional In-The-Field Training Component: Once you meet the 8 hour front desk commitment, you will be given the opportunity to join a Forest Service professional out in the field to experience different components of the U.S. Forest Service. For those looking for on the job training, this is a great way to get it. For those who always wanted to work for the U.S. Forest Service but life got in the way, this is a great way to get out there! (Time spent in the field is on a volunteer basis, and is in addition to the front-desk hours.)
