U.S. Forest Service Offers Fee Free Veteran’s Day


PUEBLO, Colo., Nov. 5, 2010– Veterans Day, Nov. 11, 2010 will be “Fee Free” at day use and picnic sites on the Pike and San Isabel National Forests, Cimarron and Comanche National Grasslands (PSICC). However, campgrounds and rental cabins are not included in the “fee free” day. The following sites are participating:


Pike National Forest:

  • South ParkDistrict : Elevenmile Canyon; Jefferson Lake (could close any day due to weather)
  • Pikes PeakDistrict:  Manitou Lake
  • South  PlatteDistrict:Bridge Crossing, Duck Creek, Indian Creek Equestrian, Geneva Creek, Little Scraggy, Scraggy View and Willow Bend


San Isabel National Forest:

  • San CarlosDistrict:  Blue and Bear Lakes, Cuchara Day Use Area
  • SalidaDistrict: Chalk Lake
  • LeadvilleDistrict:  some non-fee sites are open


Comanche (CO) and Cimarron (KS) National Grasslands:

  • Comanche District:    All day use sites are open and free
  • Cimarron District:     All day use sites are open and free


By waiving fees, the U.S. Forest Service hopes everyone will have the opportunity to enjoy the wonder and rejuvenation of recreation on national forests.


A visitor use survey taken in 2006 determined that the PSICC has over six million recreation visits each year, making it the 3rd most visited National Forest in Colorado and the 4th most visited in the United States. For more information, visit our website at:  http://www.fs.usda.gov/psicc
