JUNEAU, Alaska – Oct. 19, 2021 – Now is the time to get those creative juices flowing for new ways to use wood products from Alaska’s National Forests. In celebration of National Forest Products Week, grant applications for 2022 USDA Wood Innovations grants are now open.

There are two grant opportunities available:

  • The Community Wood Energy and Innovations grant helps to fund the costs of installing wood energy systems and building innovative wood product facilities in rural communities.
  • The Wood Innovations grant supports traditional wood utilization projects, expands wood energy markets, and promotes using wood as a construction material in commercial buildings.

Both programs focus on reducing woody debris in the forest that can increase wildfire risk and promoting economic and environmental health of local communities.

Applications will be open from Oct. 19, 2021 through Jan. 19, 2022.

A question and answer-based webinar will be held on Nov. 9 from 10 a.m.-12 p.m. AKST. Join the webinar here:

National Forest Products Week occurs the third week of October each year and celebrates the value of forests and a commitment to good stewardship and conservation practices.
