Instructions for downloading and viewing GIS data:
1. Click on the ZIP file link.
2. Save the ZIP file to the desired location on your hard drive.
3. Open the ZIP file with WINZIP and EXTRACT all the files to a folder on your hard drive.
4. To view the GIS data, download the freeware ArcGIS Explorer from http://www.esri.com/software/arcgis/explorer-desktop. Instructions for using ArcGIS Explorer can be found at this site.

Instructions for downloading and viewing Google Earth KMZ files:
1. To view Google Earth KMZ files, download the freeware Google Earth from. http://earth.google.com/intl/en/download-earth.html. Instructions for using Google Earth can be found at this site.
2. Click on the KMZ file link.
3. Save the KMZ file to the desired location on your hard drive.
4. Open the KMZ file. Select Open from the same File Download window you selected Save from.

Surface Ownership - An area depicting ownership parcels of the surface estate. Each surface ownership parcel is tied to a particular legal transaction. The same individual or organization may currently own many parcels that may or may not have been acquired through the same legal transaction. Therefore, they are captured as separate entities rather than merged together. This is in contrast to Basic Ownership, in which the surface ownership parcels having the same owner are merged together.
