Region 4 Fire Hire

Region 4 will be utilizing a centralized fire hire process this fall to hire permanent fire positions at the GS-08 level and below. Fire Hire is a Forest Service process used to hire the majority of our permanent workforce in fire and fuels management. The unique feature of this process is the ability to immediately backfill any position that may be vacated while in the fire hire event.

Region 4 is looking for committed, hardworking, high skilled individuals to suppress wildfires and work in fuels management on 12 National Forests located in Idaho, Wyoming, Nevada, Utah and California. The fire and aviation management program is very rewarding and requires working safely as part of a team in a variety of specialized positions; including dispatch, engine crews, fuels technicians, handcrews, helitack, hotshot crews, smokejumpers, and prevention. See the list(s) below of all currently vacant positions (Current Known Vacancies) and all potential positions that could become vacant (2022 Vacancy Announcement Numbers) during the fire hire process.

We will also hire our wildland fire apprentices during our fall fire hire event.  Learn more about the apprenticeship program. (These positions are NOT summer seasonal/temporary positions) This is not for summer seasonal temporary positions.
