Welcome to the Intermountain Region news story and video page.     Saving Seeds

    Traveling tree climbers harvest ponderosa pine cones as wildfire grows near. The crew worked like squirrels, picking, sorting, and measuring pine cones by the bushel to send to the Lucky Peak Nursery in Boise.

    Amidst the shifting light of an autumn morning, U.S. Department of Agriculture Forest Service trucks rolled into the South Fork Shoshone Tribal Headquarters. This was an opportunity for Forest Service employees in the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest to meet with the Tribe in the first ever South Fork Band Cultural Workshop.

    Wood Innovations Grants & Forest Products Industry Keep America Warm

    In 2024, the Intermountain Region invested more than $3.8 million in wood innovation program grants to seven organizations in Utah, Idaho, and Nevada. These grants helped purchase new and advanced equipment for timber processing and support product development and testing for modern construction materials.
