South Sierra Shared Service Area



Providing forest health technical assistance, training sessions and technology transfer to approximately 8 million acres of federal land, state forests & parks, and BIA/Tribal forests including:

Six National Forests:

  • Eldorado, Inyo, Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit (LTBMU), Sequoia, Sierra and Stanislaus

Four National Parks/Monuments:

  • Death Valley
  • Devil's Postpile
  • Sequoia-Kings Canyon
  • Yosemite

Unique Features

The major insects and diseases in the South Sierra Shared Service Area are similar to other areas in northern California. What is unique, however, are the challenges of managing these pests in special locations where pest treatments can be controversial.
