Outfitters & Guides

Millions of Americans recreate on their national forest lands each year—but not all of them have the gear they may need, or the skills they may want to get out and explore on their own. The Forest Service partners with recreation service providers, conducted under special use permit, to bridge that gap and support many kinds of outdoor recreation that would otherwise be out of reach for many users-- skiing, boating, rafting, climbing, backpacking, horseback riding, fishing, and more. These partnerships between government and private companies (commercial guides, non-profits, educational, outdoor program leaders) produce quality recreational opportunities for the public and heighten the economic activity in local communities.
