The Eastern Region of the USDA Forest Service supports a comprehensive Forest Markets program that aims to create new opportunities for wood products which contribute to more diverse local economies; support sustainable forest management; and more competitive, productive, and profitable forest products industry in the Northeast and Midwest.

    USDA Forest Service partners with Alliance for Green Heat to expand firewood banks nationwide

    The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Forest Service awarded more than $712,000 from President Biden’s Bipartisan Infrastructure Law to the Alliance for Green Heat to expand firewood banks in 2022 and to add more banks in 2023 to serve more people. Firewood banks, like food banks, provide a local, renewable and cost-effective heating source for people in need.

    Forest Service grants $9M for wood innovations in Northeast, Midwest

    USDA Secretary Tom Vilsack recently announced $9 million in funding for wood innovations and community wood grant projects in the Eastern Region. This funding will support 26 projects in Connecticut, Indiana, Iowa, Maine, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, New Hampshire, New York, Pennsylvania, Wisconsin and the District of Columbia.
