Fire Restrictions

There are currently no fire restrictions on the RGNF.

Stage 1 fire restrictions were effective from August 20 to October 28, 2020. This was one of the longest durations of restrictions in the history of the forest.

Current Fires:

The San Juan National Forest is managing the Nebo Fire, located high in the Weminuche Wilderness area approximately 9 miles W/SW of Rio Grande Reservoir.  Please follow the San Juan National Forest for information on this fire. The Columbine Ranger District is reached by calling (970) 884-2512.

Update - October 26, 2020: An earlier closure of the area has been lifted. No molre updates to this fire will be posted. 

Older 2020 Fires:

The Goose Creek Fire was reported on Sunday, June 28 around noon. Located south of Lake Humphrey's and Creede, CO, the fire is burning high on a ridge in the Goose Creek drainage. Spruce fir and aspen are primary fuels in the area. Access to the fire is difficult and poses a high risk to firefighters. Fire updates can be seen on Inciweb and the Rio Grande National Forest's Facebook page. This fire is not out, but is generally inactive and may not be noticeable for a long time. 

The Gosse Creek Fire was declared 100% contained in early Septemeber. There will be no further updates posted.
