Montague, CA-- The Klamath and Rogue River-Siskiyou National Forests want to remind people that the Smokey Bear Hot Air Balloon will soon be flying the skies over the Shasta Valley the weekend of September 22-24, 2017 at the Montague Balloon Fair.

The Smokey Bear Hot Air Balloon dates back to 1993, when the Forest Service was looking for a new way to educate and excite the public about fire prevention. The Smokey Bear Hot Air Balloon has enlightened and delighted thousands of older and younger generations throughout the United States, Canada and the world.  It stands 97 feet tall and is 145,000 cubic feet when fully inflated!  With the balloon comes a special trailer offering a full range of environmental and educational tools to engage people of all ages, while providing exciting knowledge about wildfire prevention and fire resiliency.

Forest Supervisor for the Klamath National Forest Patricia Grantham says “I am very pleased to be hosting the Smokey Bear Balloon in Siskiyou County this year at the Montague Balloon Fair.  I’ve never seen the Smokey Balloon in person, so it’s a great treat for me.”  Klamath National Forest Fire Prevention Officer Joshua Veal says, “Smokey Bear is the symbol of fire prevention, and we are honored to have this wonderful and unique balloon with us this year at the Montague Balloon Fair.”

Stay updated and get reminders as the festival approaches through the Facebook Event Page! Be sure to mark your calendars for this fun-filled weekend and don’t miss your chance to see the Smokey Bear Hot Air Balloon with your whole family!
