SW Oregon—Following the Chetco Bar Fire, Rogue River-Siskiyou National Forest and fire personnel have been working diligently to address the hazard trees along Chetco River Road in an effort to make the road safe for public entry. Effective today, their hard work is paying off: the road and areas adjacent to it are open, up to Nook Bar, including the river access road. This work was done as quickly as possible in order to re-open the area in time for the salmon fishing season.

Work is now focusing on the road up to South Fork Campground, with the intent to open the road to the South Fork Chetco Bridge to public access as soon as possible. The RRSNF anticipates this work being completed in two or three weeks, and will announce both the completion and the re-opening of this area.

The revised closure order and map can be viewed on the RRSNF’s website.

The RRSNF wishes to extend a heartfelt “Thank You” to the public for their ongoing patience with the closures in fire areas!

Know Before You Go: The public are encouraged to call the Gold Beach RD (541 247-3600) ahead of their visit to ensure their destination is open and accessible. People are also encouraged to follow the Forest on both Twitter and Facebook for updates on closures and closure reductions.
