Contact(s): Matt Timchak, Timber Management Assistant -(541) 247-3624, Carol Lagodich, Chetco Bar PIO, 907-821-8327

Gold Beach, OR–Chetco Bar Packer salvage sale operations are ongoing for the next several months to remove roadside danger trees. Operations are currently approximately two miles south of Steel Bridge on Forest Road 1376.

Tree felling, skidding/yarding, and hauling are occurring daily to remove danger trees along this route. There may be 20-30 minute travel delays. The road is closed beyond Steel Bridge. Occasional private logging trucks may be encountered prior to the South Fork Bridge (at the eight mile mark). Use CB channel 17 on Forest Road 1376 until approximately one mile after the Forest Road 1376/1917 intersection, then channel 3 closer to the active logging operations.

Please be safe and go slow around operations and make sure operators see you. Communicate with equipment operators if you have a CB as you approach the work site. The intent is to open the area closure and road systems as danger tree treatments are completed so that the public will have access to their National Forest.

The Packer Chetco Bar danger tree salvage sale sold on May 15, 2018 to CLR Timber Holdings (South Coast Lumber) for $1,523,158 for 9.1 MMBF of timber. Part of the proceeds of the sale, $500,000, will be utilized for forest restoration work and $716,000 of road improvements will be completed.
